Throughout my life, little did I know that I was dealing with racism. Harsh reality came sweeping to me after I got married.
Growing up in Mindanao, its normal to speak Visayan but you are different if you speak the language with your Chavacano family.
Studying in Manila, it was odd that you are the most silent person because you can't talk Tagalog fast enough.
In college, you question why Muslim can't tolerate Christian girls who don't wear hijab and to the point they splash acid on their faces. The looks thrown at you for the only girl in the ROTC line. You question why they have to wage wars after the twin towers fell down in NY.
At work, you wonder why people with accent are shouted by people from the west as if its such a big sin to have such an accent.
At organizations, you wonder why having a prominent last name is must in dealing with other people.
Got married and all that, they also said that others are better off because of their caste.
My honest to goodness rant is something like this:
Raising M finger to all who say that
------their religion is better than the others because after all we only have one GOD
------their tribe is better than others because after all we came from only one ancestors
------their color is better than others because after all RED is the color that lies within all human beings
so I put my M finger down and Thumbs up to
-----those who strive so hard to find the similarities on all of us
-----those who try to understand other people's belief, culture and religion
-----those who understand not only the physical surface but also the innermost components as well
lastly, I salute
----the ones who endured, strived hard and overcome all the challenges they faced
----the ones who sacrificed their lives for the sake of equality
----the ones who defy the norm in order to make a new culture
Hugs for those who felt sad when they felt alone
Comfort for those who feel that they are inferior
Love for those who feel unloved
Pardon for my rant.. This is just me swaying.....
