You are too tall they said,
I scrouched and got shy
Later in life- I realized my height is my asset.
Where did you come from they said,
oh, from the land of Abusayyaf.
Later I realized I missed the abundance of nature in Mindanao.
What is your last name they said,
It sounds like from Mozart the famous singer
and It also sounds like from the scariest part of Mindanao.
Later I know the greatness of the last name and the honor my forefathers bear.
What is your husband's last name they said,
It does not sound familiar
One even don't want to acknowledge nor associate it with my name.
What is your husband's caste they said,
I don't know, I said.
Because I really don't care what caste they belong.
I know they are a loving family and it does not matter what caste they belong.
Later I realized I am afraid to know the reality wherein their caste belongs to the lower part of the structure.
But here's what matters:
I am afraid of the stigma instigated of the caste they belong.
I am afraid of the on going issues that are going around the world.
I was typecasted so wrongly about being a Filipino trying to become the President of a group who wants to serve Filipino-who became-Nepali. (legally holding NP passport by the way)
I am so afraid that my current last name is a ticket for the people to look down on me.
I am afraid that my current nationality is prejudiced because of its rank in the world.
I am so tired of trying to make a point that wherever you and whatever you do, YOU are loved by being YOU.
BUT this is what makes me going-- to prove that point.
You don't need the POSITION to serve.
You don't need the MONEY to help.
You don't need the ACKNOWLEDGEMENT to be known.
You should not feel inferior because of the last name or the caste you belong.
Needed to vent this out because I want to create a better place for my children, for the girls who are dreamers, for those who feel oppressed and for those who feel they are not enough because of the last name or the color they have.
Shine because you are a star.
Talk because your voice matters.
Love because that is what keeps us going.
Be Kind because it can go a long way.
I AM FIONA
THE ELDEST DAUGHTER OF GADON-MOZAR CLAN
THE KANCHU BUHARI OF THE SURKHETI FROM HARNAMADI MAKAWANPUR
